OWL DICTIONARY
This is all in alphabetical order (hopefully, if I didn't mess up a few). There is many we are aware of that but it really doesn't matter if you use them.
Battle Claws- Weapons that are fitted onto the talons and used in battle.
Brood- A nest of eggs.
Broody- A female owl with eggs.
Bonk- the word Fengo, the wolf who studied fire with Grank the first collier, yelled out after he caught a flying ember, before it hit the ground. it is one of the hottest coals.
Crows- These ugly black brutes are not dangerous, unless they happen to spot an owl flying in open daylight. Lone owls are attacked in daylight, and are usually mobbed by dozens of crows. Crows will leave very large groups alone, though. During the nighttime, the tables are turned and they can be attacked by owls. These birds are not to be confused with magpies.
Dire Wolf- Enormous wolves that live in clans, they inhabit the volcanoes of Beyond the Beyond. They are not hostile towards owls.
Fire Claws- Like battle claws, except these have burning coals at the ends of them. Very effective in fighting, but they burn and mangle the wearer's talons. Usually can only be worn once.
Firesight- Having the ability to see visions in the heart of a fire.
Flecks- Almost microscopic pieces of metal that are found in the middle of pellets. They can shatter an owl's mind, or even of an unborn owl.
Flint Mop- Detention.
Frink- frink. Used like "This frinks me off!"
Ga- great spirit;a spiritthat somehow embodies not only all that is noble, but all that is humble as well. it's only in the noblest of owls, mainly the earlier owls, such as Grank had.
Gadfeather- These are owls that wear strange looking outfits and travel alone only having large meeting in the Northern Kingdoms. They keep to themselves and never tell of their history it is a large insult to ask them of it. Gadfeathers do however like to write and sing songs. They are like snipgizzles and have lots of information about the kingdoms.
Gizzard- Where pellets are formed, this is an organ below the stomach. Owls can feel instincts in their gizzards. It's sort of like a second mind, or their subconscious.
Glaumora- Owl heaven.
Glaux- The owl god, creator of all owls.
"Glaux in Glaumora!"- Used like "Oh my God!"
Glaucidium- A place in St. Aggie's where owls are marched to become moonblinked.
Guardians of Ga'Hoole- Psh yeah. See above.
Hagsfiend- Hagsfiends are pure evil birds that enjoy being them selves. They are larger than owls and have raven black feathers with large orange beady eyes. These birds mainly work for owls for evil doings and were created before the time of Hoole. They can reproduce with themselves. They usually like to keep the heads of the owls they kill. Are afraid of open water or just water itself for their very oily feathers they may drown horribly. Though evil they are not completely heartless.
Hagsmere- Owl hell.
Hireclaw- An owl that is hired and paid to kill other owls, like an assassin. Usually employed by the Pure Ones.
Katabatic winds- Getting stuck in the eye of a hurricane, if this happaned the owl would violently spin around until all its feathers and wings rip off. It is a terrible way to die.
Krackish- An owl language spoken in the Northern Kingdoms usually spoken with a heavy accent.
Magpies- Magpies do not threaten owls, and the only ones who deal with them are traders. Magpie traders are not rare. They have an eye for shiny objects and travel often. They do, however, look remarkably like crows, though they are far more beautiful than them.
Moon Blaze Chamber- Un-moonblinked owls are taken here where the moon is completely scalding. Very few can resist being moonblinked here.
Moon Blinking- If an owl sleeps directly under the light of the moon, they become hypnotized to the point of no return to sanity. The owls of St. Aggie's use this trick to moonblink owls, especially owlets due to their more vulnerable minds, and moonblink them into total obedience.
Nest Maid- These are colourful, small, and totally blind snakes that believe owls to be the highest of all birds. Willingly, they care for the nests of owls in the forests and in the Great Tree.
Others- Humans. Humans no longer exist in this world.
Paper- Paper was invented by the the Glauxian Brothers before the Ga'hoole tree. Making a little sacrafise of taking the fur and skin from their meat. The fur and skin from it was used as paper.
Pellets- Owls don't poop. Instead, they spit up any indigestible material, made up of bones and hair. These clumps of material are called pellets.
Pilgrim Owl- These owls are like monks. They often live alone and help other owls, but most of them live in sanctuaries in the Northern Kingdoms.
Pure Guard Lieutenant- There are four, two for the High Tyto and two for his mate. These are the official bodyguards of their personages and have the second-highest position of the Pure Ones.
Pure Ones- See above.
Racdrops- Directly translated to racdrops.
Puffin Not evil but completely stupid birds. They are good at swimming making them good a fishing, when they try to fly they look ridiculous. They chubby with colorful beaks, before the puffin is considered an adult they fly together and if they do good they are free to leave their parents if not they stay. They are not hostile to wards owls.
Ryb- A teacher. Also see above.
Salt stars- salt found in the ground from a dried lake, sea, ect. for making metal more flexible
Scroom- The ghost of an owl. These creatures hang out in the Spirit Woods, and stick around on earth for a number of reasons.
Seagulls- Considered the most disgusting and low of all birds by a few owls, these birds are found around bodies of water, smell terrible, and swear like sailors. Many owls, though, rely on them for information about coming storms.
Shattered- A form of hypnotism caused by flecks. They do not know what's real and what isn't, but this hypnosis can be cured.
Slipgizzle- A spy.
Sprink- This can be used as a translation for either sprink or sprink. Considered the most awful swear word of all.
Spronk- Forbidden.
Starsight- Having the ability to see the future in dreams.
Turnfeather- Betrayer.
Yarp- This verb is used for spitting up pellets, like "yarping a pellet".
Yeep- When an owl is shocked, they freeze and become very still. If an owl does go yeep when it happens to be flying, it is unable to fly and falls to the ground, usually to its death.
Yoicks- Crazy.
I KNOW I missed a bunch, I'm sorry. I have to re-read the first books. Please tell me if you notice any vocabulary missing from this list, or something that's wrong, and I'll change it for you. I'll update this list regularly.
